Bletchley Park

 
 

Admiral Mike Rogers, Director of the US National Security Agency (NSA) and Robert visited Bletchley Park together in February 2016 to mark the 75th Anniversary of the arrival of US personnel in 1941. This was the beginning of the US-UK intelligence sharing relationship.

Robert met with former colleagues Sir John Scarlett, former Chief of MI6, and John O Brennan, former CIA Director, to mark the launch of Michael Smyth’s book.

 
 

Bletchley Park

Robert has had a long standing interest in the history of computing, cryptology, and signals intelligence. He is a Trustee of Bletchley Park, the home of the World War II codebreakers. As Director of GCHQ he re-instituted the practice of sending new recruits to Bletchley to understand their predecessors’ achievements. Robert has written regularly about Bletchley Park. In 2016 as Director of GCHQ, Robert formally apologised for the treatment of Alan Turing and discrimination against other LGBT staff.
